After some advice on my 2007 2.0 D4D Auris. There appears to be a tapping sound when running cold which can only be heard under acceleration only. When up to temperature this disappears. Sounds like a sticky tappet but can’t be heard when stationary revving the engine. I have cleaned the EGR out as was heavily clogged but no noticeable improvement since. When hot the car runs fine with no noticeable problem and returns good mpg (45mpg). Are there any known problems that can cause a tapping/ticking sound on these engines? I was wondering if one of the injectors were dribbley but given the age, probably not worth looking into. The car has only covered 60k so is very low mileage for its age!
